The ‘reverence for Jimmy Barry-Murphy’ is richly deserved (Irish Examiner, Sport, August 31).

Barry-Murphy was calm in face of pointless noise

His years as a dual player and his years as a trainer were outstanding.

Even though he did not get all the success he deserved he was a very impressive spokesman for all that is good about the GAA.

In an era of loud mouthed, sporting celebrities, he was the essence of calm and good sense.
