Hardy breed - Dublin Horse Show

AS the 142nd Dublin Horse Show got under way, not even yesterday’s wintry weather could deter droves of brave enthusiasts from flocking to this annual celebration of Ireland’s multi-million euro equine industry.

Hardy breed - Dublin Horse Show

A hardy breed, accustomed to pursuing their beloved sport in all weather, they were not put off by the threat of a few showers or even a peal or two of thunder if it came to that.

Only twice in its long history has the spectacular summer show been postponed — rare occasions involving no less than two World Wars. For the next four days it will be a showcase of the best of Irish horseflesh, ranging from traditional draughts, which have put this country on the world map, to the sturdy Connemara pony also famed internationally.
