No-one was warned not to attend Israeli film
Mr McCarthy claims that he made an inquiry about attending the film, “as an advocate of Israel”, and that it was made clear to him that his “personal safety would be at risk”.
But to whom did he make this supposed inquiry? Certainly not to the national organisers of the tour (the film also screened in Cork), the IPSC. Certainly not to the local Limerick organiser of the screening, namely myself.
No-one involved in the organising of this screening was contacted by Mr McCarthy.
Who, then, is he claiming gave him such advice?
No-one, not an advocate of Israel or of Palestine, would be made feel unsafe at an event put on by the IPSC in Limerick.
Our focus is always on supporting the cause of the Palestinian people, as they struggle for justice.
In a week when Amnesty International has released a report cataloguing war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza last summer, perhaps the advocates of that state might better spend their energies trying to ensure it stops such massive acts of violence, rather than making unfounded allegations.
