We flew Russian flags during the Soviet era

I’ve listened to various media outlets talk about the Confederate Flag. I’m deeply offended that as a Cork supporter, who has carried the flag at matches, I am to be categorised with bigoted racist people from another continent.

We flew Russian flags during the Soviet era

The flag in question has been on display at Cork matches for as long as I can remember. Yet only since a mass shooting by a self professed racist has the matter become an issue. I’ve attended Cork matches in the 1980s prior to the fall of the Berlin wall where Soviet flags were waved in support of my county, yet despite the oppression of numerous people in Eastern Europe, not to mention the appalling violation of human rights seen within the Siberian Gulags by the USSR, it never raised a murmer. Why?

We are blessed in this country to have an amazing sport that includes all peoples irrespective of race, creed, colour, religion or sexuality. We have removed the rule that excluded security forces from playing our sport and we move forward as an inclusive sport and society.
