Criticism of Israel attacks is not anti-Semitism

Despite its supporters in this letters’ page claiming that criticism of Israel equates to anti-Semitism, it does not.

Criticism of Israel attacks is not anti-Semitism

They are defending the indefensible: occupation, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, racism, so they repeatedly attack those who stand against oppression.

As with the struggle against South African apartheid, Palestinian civil society has called for a boycott of Israel until it abides by international law.

If upholding human rights is beyond a state, then that state must face sanctions.

It is a year since Israel’s brutal military assault on Gaza killed 2,200 people, including 530 children, and despite numerous findings of war crimes by NGOs and the UN, Israel still acts with impunity.

While the international community continues to fail the Palestinian people by enabling Israel, it is up to people and solidarity groups to support the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) movement.
