Gender based abortions not supporting equality

I take issue with Suzanne Harrington’s claim (Irish Examiner, June 1) that ‘A foetus only has the potential to be a human being’.

Gender based abortions not supporting equality

Unborn life, similar to the newly-born, children, adolescents, etc, may have the potential to be fully grown adults, but are not genetically inferior, or less human because of being at an earlier stage of development.

Perhaps she might try to give us a consistent definition of what constitutes humanity and explain how, and at what point, unborn life becomes human.

As she quotes Una Mullally’s view that the Irish are guilty of ‘ingrained mysogyny’, she might consider support for gender-based abortions, which are endorsed by the policy of ‘bodily autonomy’ and most likely to target the female foetus, can hardly be seen as support for an equality agenda.
