Having survived the banking calamity, which lost us tens of thousands of our young people and tens of thousands of jobs, Ireland cannot survive the restoration of public-sector pay. Unemployment, redundancies and emigration shall again await us — if this is our response to the very early signs of a steadying economy. And this time there is no Brian Linehan to point a way out.
