Enforced insurance goldmine

Officialdom now wants everybody to take out health insurance or risk having to pay age-related loadings.

Enforced insurance goldmine

When a patient arrives in hospital, the first question will be ‘Do you have health insurance?’ If the answer is ‘yes’, then the hospital can send the bill to the insurance company for up to €1,000 per day just for the bed.

That will be a goldmine for the HSE. They might even manage to balance their books. Then they wouldn’t need government to fund them to the tune of €14bn a year.

Is there a whiff of political cuteness about re-shuffling the financial deckchairs aboard the economic Titanic?

Are we back to the days of never-ending insurance levies?
