Bishop doesn’t think marriage based on love

I was disappointed to read the pastoral statement by Bishop John Buckley on “marriage and the family”.

Bishop doesn’t think marriage based on love

I am surprised that the Bishop only understands marriage in terms of biological reproduction given more than 10% of heterosexual couples are infertile.

Many people of faith understand that marriage and family are based on the values of love and commitment and this is so, whether the couple are heterosexual or gay.

I had the wonderful experience of a loving, faithful same sex relationship with my partner Mervyn for 25 years until I was widowed in 2013.

I will be returning to my home of Cork on Wednesday next at the conclusion of an Atlantic Way “Pilgrimage for Yes” for Faith in Marriage Equality”.

Bishop Buckley taught me 35 years ago. I am available to meet him to help him to understand same sex couples are family too.
