Alcohol awareness - Diageo boss steps down

NOT before time, the Diageo boss in Ireland, David Smith, has withdrawn from the board of an alcohol awareness campaign established last month and which the international drinks conglomerate is funding to the tune of €1m.

As the fourth member of the board to step down, he explained it was due to the unwarranted pressure board members were being subjected to, arguing it was down to a perceived lack of independence due to Diageo involvement.

Not surprisingly, many believe the company is involved for commercial reasons and is using the Stop Out-of-Control Drinking campaign as something of a smoke-screen.
