$25m golf lesson - McIlroy court case

THE case between golfer Rory McIlroy and his former management company Horizon Sports Management, appears to have cost him a packet. 

According to reports, it has been settled for a sum in the region of $25m, plus legal costs.

McIlroy will make this once-off payment to resolve the long-running dispute between the sides over a contract he signed in 2011.

It looks like an expensive lesson, yet the settlement also displays a growing maturity by McIlroy in dealing with the flipside of fame and fortune. If the case had run, it would have taken months to resolve, with increasing legal costs.

The world’s No 1 golfer is still only 25, an age when many would either be enjoying themselves in college or else waiting at the end of a phone for a job offer.

He has shown both dignity and maturity for one so young in dealing with what must have been a trying time.

Now he – and we – can look forward to watching him do what he does best, and that is to enthral us all with his incredible talent.
