Blasphemy reform shows media’s eltism

Your editorial yesterday (Irish Examiner, January 14) about lack of political reform reeks of hypocrisy.

Two fundamental reforms proposed — the abolition of the Seanad and the attempt to increase women’s representation — are still being opposed by most of the media.

The Seanad abolition was also opposed academia to maintain privileged places for their elite cronies.

The attempt to increase women’s representation were scoffed at and the resultant increase in women candidates is being labelled ‘token’.

The media orchestration of ‘reform’ in more esoteric areas such as blasphemy is hard to take.
