No need to canvass on water charges

I have no problem with people protesting over the water charges.

No need to canvass on water charges

That is their democratic right in this country. My question is: if the anti-water charges protesters are so confident of their stance why go house-to-house canvassing on the issue as is happening here in Galway?

I recently ran in the local elections. Myself and members of my team engaged in house to house canvassing as is normal. Why engage in canvassing on water charges in the first place?

If people do not want to pay they won’t and vice versa. Surely we are all adult enough to be able to make up our minds without anyone trying to persuade us one way or another?
