Botched handling of Irish Water playing into hands of Sinn Fein
Taoiseach Enda Kenny warns of a personal tax hike of 4%, should the citizens not pay the water charges. Minister for Finance Michael Noonan arrogantly dismisses the water protests as a passing phase.
Since the Troika left us, the Government has stumbled from crisis to crisis, like a drunk man fumbling in the darkness for the light switch. Perhaps we should invite the Troika back to keep marking the scorecard? I have no doubt that some, if not most, of the water protests are being organised for political motives ie the next election. Fine Gael/Labour are acting as if they are the election agents for Sinn Fein (SF), by their inept management of public issues.
The ‘bearded one’ aside, it would seem that SF is poised to make major gains next time out. Should this happen, Mr Kenny will have facilitated the rise and rise of SF through his botched handling of medical cards and Irish Water.
Should Fine Gael (FG) lose some 40/45 seats in the next general election, who will Enda blame? FF, the Troika, the ECB or the Irish electorate? Fine Gael won the last election with seemingly innovative policies that were mutton dressed as lamb. What a major opportunity lost, for both Ireland and FG. I believe that the next general election will have a higher than usual turnout as the electorate vent their anger. The 2011 massacre of FF might pale in comparision.
