Bruton’s comments about pensions are getting old fast

John Bruton is "facing up to the ageing problem, while others are sitting on their hands," he wrote in an article in a Sunday newspaper.

Bruton’s comments about pensions are getting old fast

If he had done this while he was Minister for Finance, Irish Shipping workers may have received their pension entitlements, or if he had done it while Taoiseach, we may not have retirees surviving on pensions that are too low.

The pensions industry is harbouring a financial disaster of titanic proportions. Is Mr Bruton a gamekeeper turned poacher, or is he a poacher, like most politicians who achieve high office?

His suggestion that “borrowing would be the best and least painful way to bridge the ageing gap” is like pouring more water into the Titanic as it went down.

Mr Bruton, if you try living on the State pension, or a plundered private sector pension, your views may become more socially responsible.
