Water charges are part of pure profiteering

Your editorial about water charges displays an amazing lack of understanding of how the capitalist system, or the Thatcherite version, operates in this Republic.

Water charges are part of pure profiteering

Those who are in power act as the executive of the ruling class and that class, the wealthy, dictates the government agenda.

So why is it surprising that water charges are going to hit the pockets of the common man, woman, and child?

It is wishful thinking, in the extreme, to expect a profit-making system to work for the common good; that is not its function.

Please enlighten your readers as to the true nature of the system in operation. If capitalists thought they could sell the air we breathe and make a profit, they would do so.

If the lazy-minded people in charge of running this country would only think, for a moment, and harvest the rain instead of taxing it, we could be exporting water.

But, then, that isn’t how the capitalist system operates.
