Upgraded N28 not good for Ringaskiddy

Your report (July 15), suggests that Cllr Seamus McGrath of Fianna Fáil (and others), seem to be of the opinion that the Port of Cork’s container development plan for Ringaskiddy would be in order if the upgrade of the N28 was in place.

Upgraded N28 not good for Ringaskiddy

May I inform the councillor, and his political colleagues, that this development within the village of Ringaskiddy was rejected in 2008 by An Bord Pleanála (case reference PL04 PA0003). Nothing has changed.

There will never be a railhead facility at Ringaskiddy unless a very substantial portion of Cork City is demolished, levelled to the ground, coupled with enormous funding so that it can join an existing rail line.

I suggest that the councillors and planners read pages 97 and 98 of the report by An Bord Pleanála when this body rejected the planning application in 2008.

An upgraded N28 will only bring the HGV traffic to Shannon Roundabout, Bloomfield, and on to the Kinsale Roundabout, or to the Jack Lynch Tunnel, faster, making the present situation far worse.

Why would the present planners change their minds after six years? And when will the politicians realise that this development will be in the wrong place?
