No one has a plan to push for nation’s debt write off

Ann Cahill writes that "everyone promises to push for Ireland to recoup the funds it spent repaying the speculators, but nobody has come up with a plan on how to achieve it." (Irish Examiner, May 19.)

No one has a plan to push for nation’s debt write off

Neither FF, FG or Labour have any intention of getting our money back, never mind have a plan on how to do so.

Enda Kenny once declared that “we have never looked for a writedown”. Joan Burton once stated “we’re not going to be able to renegotiate the IMF/EU Agreement.” Dara Murphy has claimed that “it is futile claiming that a write off from the ECB was a possibility”, and has even stated that the “ECB has not agreed to the write down of sovereign debt for any other country” (What about Greek bondholders who lost billions in a structured write down, Dara?).

Since it was an FF administration which dumped all this debt on the taxpayers, Mícheá Martin’s claims that he will renegotiate the debt can be taken with a pinch of salt.
