Gaelic games online: A wonderful opportunity

It is always nice to share good fortune with your neighbours so the announcement that GAA fans around the world will be able to watch all this summer’s All Ireland Championship matches via the internet is an occasion to celebrate and put our best foot forward.

Though the 20 games contracted to Sky will not be accessible through this service this development is a wonderful fillip for Gaelic games and a feather in the cap for public sector broadcaster RTÉ.

It will help sustain cultural and sporting links with the tens of thousands forced to emigrate and it may even promote the games to new participants and audiences. It is another example of how technology has made our world so much smaller and intimate. It is however more than an opportunity to promote our games. It is an opportunity to promote our country and all that is good about it. Let’s make the best use of the opportunity.
