Storm leaves some peace in its wake
Power outage causes unforeseen difficulties for hospitals, businesses, families and many more.
However, recently in our house I expressed some delight when the power went out. My wife thought I had a few screws loose. When we donāt have power we donāt have television and we donāt have laptops; in other words we donāt have distractions. We sat by the fire with our young son with only candles to light the way and drank tea from a flask. We talked for ages with no mention of how many ālikesā a picture on Facebook did or did not get. We sat in a wonderful and peaceful silence.
At 10pm the power came back, that peaceful silence was shattered by the noise of the TV, the dishwasher, the washing machine, the dryer and the coffee machine ready to make another skinny frappy mocha chocco latte.
Sometimes sitting by the fire in the shadow of candlelight and drinking tea from a flask isnāt such a bad thing, is it?
