O’Keeffe case raises questions about legal costs

Louise O’Keeffe is to be congratulated for having the courage of her convictions for pursuing the State in relation to the grievous wrong done to her 15 years ago. Her bravery and determination should make her a role model for us all.

O’Keeffe case raises questions about legal costs

Despite past and present governments best efforts she won.! When she won, two apologies were issued by Mr Kenny and Mr Gilmore. One has to wonder if these apologies were a cynical exercise in damage control, as this overmen had three years to halt legal proceedings against Ms. O’Keeffe. To my mind this verdict, vindicating Ms O’Keeffe, raises serious issues about the rule of law and its interpretation by our judges and all the legal eagles.

How come this case was ruled against time and time again, right up to the Supreme Court? How is it that our highest judges missed the whole issue of human rights and it’s impact on this case? How come all the expensive legal advisors gave what is now flawed advice to successive governments, thus leading to the embarrassment of our Republic internationally?
