Consigned to the past?

I have to commend UCC for the World War I lectures held at the university at the weekend.

Amidst this eclectic gathering of historians and writers was the Government’s representative, Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan. He spoke with gusto of the importance of remembering the war.

Interesting how the Education Minister Ruairi Quinn was absent. Maybe not — since it is under his ministry that Junior Cert history is to be relegated to a choice subject in schools. All the same, thanks for the Government backing. It looks good in the papers, Ruairi.
