Consigned to the past?

I have to commend UCC for the World War I lectures held at the university at the weekend.

Consigned to the past?

Amidst this eclectic gathering of historians and writers was the Government’s representative, Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan. He spoke with gusto of the importance of remembering the war.

Interesting how the Education Minister Ruairi Quinn was absent. Maybe not — since it is under his ministry that Junior Cert history is to be relegated to a choice subject in schools. All the same, thanks for the Government backing. It looks good in the papers, Ruairi.

So, congratulations to you, UCC, but please leave the politicians at home. We’ll let history judge them, unless there are no more historians left to do so?
