John Allen’s suggestion that the GAA introduce black cards in hurling (Irish Examiner, Jan 12) should be resisted.

No hurling black cards

After an electrifying hurling year, that attracted record championship crowds, dumbing down the game would be regressive.

Football needs black cards because the absence of a defined tackle has escalated the cynicism. Hurling does not suffer from the same problem.! Proof again, if needed, that you cannot just carry over rules from football to hurling; they are different games.
