Mandela and the IRA

Some years after his release from prison I was shocked when Nelson Mandela described the IRA as true freedom fighters for the people of Ireland.

Perhaps he believed this because while in prison he received copies of An Phoblacht from Gerry Adams.

While the IRA never used necklace tyre burning, they did murder by bomb and bullet, men women and children.

Gerry Adams was guest of honour at Mandela’s funeral so, perhaps if Archbishop Desmound Tutu had put aside the teaching of Jesus Christ and supported the IRA he, too, would have been a VIP at Mandela’s funeral?
