Time to bury argument on power cables

Power cables must be buried at the side of our road network, especially by the side of dual carriageways which could be the cheapest way to do it when devaluation of property is taken into account.

The works needed by way of surveys have already been done on our road infrastructure and I appeal to Communications Minister Pat Rabbit to seriously consider this option.

Pylons going up on farms are going to be an eyesore and will have serious implications on future farm development and will slash or eliminate possible site sales.

Pylons will blight our beautiful country side and our view from the Comeragh mountain range here in Waterford. Damage will be done to our environment, tourism, food exports, farming, community, and job creation. These potential losses could have a negative value of many millions to our economy. We are also very much going into the unknown on the health risk for future generations.

I am a member of the Comeragh Rathgormack k9 pylon prevention group and there is major concern down here in Waterford.

I would like to appeal again to Mr Rabbite and the government parties of the Fine Gael/Labour coalition who need to recognise these effects and not bulldoze this through in its current form. I fear they are getting this one wrong. Very wrong.
