A point of clarification on Freemasons

I wish to refer to the programme Creedon’s Cities which was screened on RTÉ One on Sunday, Oct 27 which featured the city of Cork.

During the walkabout, the viewers were shown the interior of the Freemasons’ Hall by David Butler.

Now Freemasons individually are often very nice people, but in regard to Catholics, they hold to a very contrary view, and a Catholic is living in mortal sin if he/she is a member of Freemasons. Because John Creedon forgot to make this clear, it is important that somebody does.

The reason is this: Freemasonry is itself a separate religion, that embraces all beliefs, Christian, pagan and none. It works for this on a universal scale, and its identifying emblem is the pentagram, or the interlaced triangles that form a five-pointed star, which goes back historically to the worship of Baalin and Saturn, and is identified in medieval witchcraft and Satanism. This is not strange in a religion that embraces all beliefs. Catholics, who have the gift of the True Faith, can no more join the Masons than they can apostatise and become Protestants, which would also be mortally sinful. So Creedon was quite wrong to say Catholic men could join the Freemasons in Cork, in preference to going to their local pub.
