A common exam may be the right result

If you are the parent of a schoolchild, whether at primary or secondary, their future options for third-level education become all encompassing, and therefore stressful.

A common exam may be the right result

Choices are made, advice given, to reduce the pressure but resulting in compromise, which is not always desired.

There are many ways of lightening the pressure without detracting from academic performance.

Could we just have a common exam, or have all students sit both the pass and honours papers? I cannot see why not.

I know it would have an added cost, but I’m sure that a cap on public sector pensions, or the eradication of expenses for politicians, would more than offset same.
