Public service is driven to do its best for us all

I recently mislaid my driving licence, four days before I was to depart for a road trip holiday in the US.

Public service is driven to do its best for us all

At the motor taxation office, on the Model Farm Road, Cork, when I sought a replacement I was told that it would take 7 to 10 days to arrive. I outlined my situation to the staff, but they held out little hope for the licence arriving in time.

To my surprise and delight, the licence arrived in the post two days later, thirty minutes before I left for the airport.

I’d like to note the caring professionalism of the public service, which, in these times, is in danger of being overlooked and undervalued.

And we had a wonderful holiday.
