Losing the Seanad and losing our sovereignty

With so many directives/imperatives coming from the EU, troika and self-appointed bureaucrats it’s hard to know what laws and initiatives are coming solely from our own government.

Losing the Seanad and losing our sovereignty

The abolish the Seanad initiative could very well be another step towards the complete federalisation of the EU.

Then our hard-won sovereignty would be gone — along with our right to stay out of worldwide violent conflicts. Our hard-won and much respected Bunreacht na hÉireann would have to play second fiddle to an EU constitution. As TDs of all the parties have been whipped into line, we cannot expect any voices raised against their leaders.

The deceptive propaganda coming from government ministers lately would be laughable if wasn’t so serious. If they were serious about saving money they would start to dismantle some of the spin shops and quangos costing us billions every year. Toothless tribunals are another waste of money — as the truth never comes out anyway.

Basically, the political profession is one of the few areas where there are no qualifications required for assuming important office.

But I’m sure we all have our own opinions as to what ‘’expertise’’ they acquire once we vote them in. I’ll be voting to retain the Seanad.
