Seanad enables Irish emigrants to vote at home

Your report (Sept 27) on emigration, based on a UCC study, shows large losses of recent graduates.

This national ‘brain drain’ is a major cost to the Irish economy and to those at home. Only the two university constituencies allow residents abroad to vote in elections to the Oireachtas.

This representation will cease if the Seanad is abolished. It is in the interests of all emigrants that there should be a ‘no’ vote in the referendum to abolish the Seanad. It is the only place in Leinster House where members of the diaspora have a vote. Do not let down the Irish overseas on Oct 4.
