Falling from grace

Revisiting the biggest scoop of the ’90s when it was revealed that Bishop Eamon Casey had fathered a child with American Annie Murphy elicits memories of that signal event.

The fall from grace indeed was the first crack in the edifice of the Catholic Church in Ireland (Irish Examiner, Aug 3) but a minor crevice compared with the clerical behaviour that followed in the recent decades.
