Attacks on elderly - Put them behind bars

Just as the funerals of the brothers murdered in Mayo last week were under way news of another attack on an elderly couple came to light.

Jack and Tommy Blaine, aged 76 and 69, were beaten to death in their home last Wednesday morning. As they were being buried news of an attack on an elderly couple in Westmeath added to the horror and anger provoked by their murders. A 75-year-old profoundly deaf man and his wife, who is in her 80s, were assaulted after men broke into their house.

A civilised society would not tolerate these attacks and would have effective deterrents in place. Anyone who has any information on these attacks should give it to the proper authorities to try to ensure that these thugs are put behind bars.
