’Guru’ not so hot when it comes to forecasting weather

In your article (Jul 9) on the present fine spell, you report on the further forecasts of New Zealand weather “guru” Ken Ring.

’Guru’ not so hot when it comes to forecasting weather

Rather than uncritically accepting his predictions, we should examine how his prophecies earlier this year (see Irish Examiner, Mar 28) have worked out. The “hot interval” we were supposed to have from May 12-16 turned out to be cold and showery. Rain would be “more likely” from May 20-24, in fact, it was dry and sunny.

Instead of “heavier rain”, May 27-31, we had largely dry and sunny weather. Particularly wide of the mark was his “regular rain activity for the first half of June”; we enjoyed hot and sunny days from Jun 1-9.
