Different views on Clare Daly comments
Follow on to the Irish Examiner (Jun 20) and Shaun Connolly with his comment piece where he made small of Enda Kenny but, very worryingly he repeated verbatim what Clare Daly had to say. Yet in reporting what Enda Kenny had to say in reply, only one word was reported — “disgraceful”. Is this balance? To finish his article with snide remarks of “leprechaun hats”, and “Oirish” does him and his newspaper a great disservice. However, it only enhances his and Colette Browne’s bias towards this government.
How interesting then, when the Irish Examiner editorial of Jun 20) should differ very considerably from both correspondents calling Clare Daly’s comments “offensive”, “ill judged”, “contemptible”, further adding that it was a “diatribe” against Americans but also against the people of Ireland. How true. It gives me hope that the Irish Examiner may give way to some of its own bias about this government in reporting with balance and honesty.
