Short long-term memory

Your editorial of May 30 highlights our short memories and our infinite capacity for hypocrisy and denial.

When you say that ‘more austerity will mean economic suicide’ you are ignoring the fact that government is spending billions more than it is collecting in tax. We are borrowing the balance from abroad. Future generations will have to pay it back.

The economic suicide happened 10 years or more ago during the Celtic Tiger era when decisions were made by our most powerful citizens which bankrupted the country.
