I feel compelled to write to you in frustration concerning a matter which I’m sure many of your readers will sympathise with, and this is the so-called re-registration contributions which are requested by many second-level schools.

While hard-pressed families are facing cuts to their incomes, social welfare payments and children’s allowances, on top of the upcoming introduction of household and water charges, many feel pressurised into paying these contributions.

While parents all over the country give freely of their time to fundraise for their local school, the concept of free education seems to be anything but, as parents are being continually asked to bear the cost of getting their children their constitutional right.
