Falling water quality - Why wait for rationing?

Though our situation is not as bad as the people of Shanghai, whose drinking water is under threat after 16,000 diseased pig carcasses were found in tributaries of the Huangpu river, a new Environmental Protection Agency report shows that we must do much more to protect the integrity of our water sources.

The EPA has found that the quality of some drinking water has fallen dangerously in recent years. Farming is a primary contributory factor, as are forestry, wind farms, and one-off housing.

Whether we like it or not, we will eventually have to tackle these issues in a realistic way. Why wait until we have to ration drinking water?
