Why we should make the most of Macra

THE other night my brother Steven came home from a Macra debate which asked: ‘Should PE be compulsory for all second level students?’

He seemed a bit deflated due to the fact they had lost, and worse still, on a technical error because they were five minutes late due to getting caught up in a funeral.

As he huffed and puffed saying how unfair it was, I began to realise the importance of Macra. The organisation is not just for farmers, it is the heartbeat of local communities up and down the country. The organisation allows anyone from the age of 18-35 to take part in many activities, such as sports, acting, drama, singing, and dancing. It is all done on a voluntary basis, and it allows young people to get involved within their community. It embraces what is unique and special in Ireland — a love of gathering with friends and having the craic.
