Cutbacks hitting gardaí and communities they serve

Father Michael Cusack’s comments at the funeral of Detective Garda Donohoe were a stark reminder to all of us of the anger that is out there in relation to crime and how the vulnerable in our society feel at being isolated and, more importantly, how these thugs are getting away with their crimes.

I speak as a resident in an estate that has had over 12 robberies in the space of 12 weeks and yet when I contacted my local politicians I was given the same answer — that they will forward my concerns to the local community garda and as a concerned citizen who reported a robbery which I witnessed.

Yet when I rang the local garda station and I was not even asked for my number nor did anyone contact me since.
