Kenny and Cowen, one of a kind
The answer is a no, especially on matters to do with fairness and basic social justice. Neither had the slightest sense of what is fair and just and saw nothing wrong with shifting the burden of the financial crisis onto the shoulders of those least able to bear it.
Take recent comments by the Taoiseach. Answering questions in the Dáil on the decision by AIB to increase the variable mortgage rate, he suggested that if the pain is not carried by the 70,000 mortgage holder unfortunates — many of whom will be in significant negative equity — then it will have to be borne by the “2.1 million taxpayers”, this is strange in itself as it implies that we have people in this country who survive without paying tax —— maybe Mr Kenny would name one!
