Media hype is Olympian

The comment “bronze medals are for losers”, made during the coverage of the Olympics, epitomises the over-the-top, steroidal, wall-to-wall media hype.

It mirrors the unrealism of the coverage of the Irish economy during the Celtic Tiger era.

The ‘masters of the universe’ who controlled government had no truck with anything that smacked of bronze medals either.

They cut corners and bankrupted the country.
