TDs expenses are undeserved
Expenses should be paid to workers on an average wage when extra expense is placed on them by their employer.
When you’re an elected member of the Dáil your wages are already high enough to pay for travel expenses, hotel stays, etc. Greed is the only reason a TD would claim expenses; a way of saving their massive earnings to treat themselves to the finer things in life.
One TD reportedly used travel expenses to buy a car. Now, if a person in a regular company claimed expenses to buy a car, to say eyebrows would be raised is an understatement.
The socialists claimed their expenses to ferry themselves around the country encouraging people to break the law; a gross misuse of public money. The simple solution is to remove the luxury upon luxury of expenses altogether.
Last year some TDs claimed up to €50,000 in expenses on top of their wages, while one Dublin South West TD for Labour, Eamonn Maloney, did not claim a single cent in expenses. This should be the record across the board; TDs don’t deserve expenses.
