Prostitution brings only human misery

Your recent investigation into prostitution and the human misery it is causing could not be more timely and is an important contribution to the debate over whether or not to make it an offence to pay for sex.

As one of over 50 organisations which form the Turn Off the Red Light campaign, we are seeking a change in the law and have been greatly encouraged by recent political statements of support, including that of Cllr Noel Collins, conveyed through your Letters page.

A review of the laws on prostitution is now underway and we are asking members of the public and public representatives to make their views known. Our campaign is asking all local authorities to pass motions supporting the calls for a change in the law and an end to the human rights abuses taking place in communities right across Ireland.
