Cheaper crèches

The closure of three creches by City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee, in Whitehall, Ballyfermot and Cabra, and in other VECs around the country, is caused by a complicated set of circumstances.

At the root is that the Department of Children is telling VECs to use a cheaper model to run their crèches, ie one that does not involve the crèches being fully staffed by properly paid childcare workers.

Bad enough when private companies such as Ryanair undercut wages, but we now have a situation (under a Labour coalition) where one government department is attempting to undercut wages in other government organisations.
