Holding political class to account more efficiently

When Philip O’Neill tells us that ‘we are condemned to be hapless victims of a political class’ and that ‘we have had enough of it’, he is just complaining about the human being’s tendency to be corrupted by power (Letters, Apr 5).

Holding political class to account more efficiently

Since he does not specify how we are to get the political class to change, the fact that he goes back to ancient Greece to back up his argument for change does not make it any more convincing.

Churchill is quoted as saying that democracy is an awful system of government until you think of the alternatives. It looks as if we are stuck with the present system. I would suggest, however, that in the future we hold the political class to account much more efficiently than we have in the past.
