Cut consultants’ pay

Ireland’s government spends 10% of national income on healthcare, more than a quarter above the typical EU-15 country.

One way to free up the funding needed for hospitals would be a cut on hospital consultants pay to the European norm. Some 1,300 consultants cut by €100,000 would be €1.3bn in saving annually.
