Let them call the shots

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has a point when he says “referendums are not very democratic”.

Let’s not forget we voted No to both the Lisbon and Nice treaties but we were told we got it wrong so we had to vote again. For some reason I still haven’t been able to understand the electorate did as they were told the second time around. To save us the bother of a further two referendums on the same issue, we’re probably better off leaving Mr Varadkar and his associates call the shots on this one.
