Embassy closure outcry

ALLOW me to make a very basic point of logic in relation to the article “Public decries closure of embassy to the Vatican” (Jan 16).

Embassy closure outcry

The fact that 93% of those who wrote letters to the government about the closure of the embassy to the Vatican opposed the move, does not suggest that the decision to close the embassy was not merited, nor that the majority of the public opposed the move. This group of people are not “the public“ — they are a tiny fraction of the public who were motivated enough to write letters in support of an opposition to the closure of the embassy.
