Setting a bad example

WHY is our national broadcaster screening violence on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the holiest and most peaceful days in the year?

The Christmas Eve showpiece on RTÉ1 is Quantum of Solace, a James Bond adventure. Hundreds of people get blown to smithereens matter-of-factly. On Christmas Day TV3 brings us The Bourne Identity, a brilliant film, but an extremely violent one. Bourne will whet the appetite for the ultra-violent Baader Meinhof Complex, RTÉ’s offering at 11.20pm. Has anybody in RTÉ heard of bad example?
