THE loss of three members of one family in a single tragedy would be overwhelming at any time, but the fact that a father and two of his children died in their home during Christmas week deepens the tragedy in the cruellest way.

That they did so while the children’s stepmother was seriously ill in hospital makes it all the more incomprehensible.

Trevor Wallwork, his daughter, Kim, 12, and her brother, Harry, nine, died on Sunday from what post mortem tests indicated was due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Every winter brings deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and it would be prudent to check all heating and ventilation systems to do all we can to ensure that they are working properly.
